When people resist arrest, particularly by using violence, it will only make their situation worse. Being accused of a crime is serious, but resisting arrest is too.
Two people were arrested and put in jail on drug charges in Green Bay late last week in a situation that turned violent. Police apparently were called to the Quality Inn & Suites on South Washington Street after complaints of a smell of marijuana coming from a room. The call came at around 11 p.m. on a recent evening.
Police officers say a 29-year-old man, who is from out of town, was making crack cocaine with a 23-year-old woman from Green Bay in the room. When two officers responded to the call, the man allegedly began fighting with them.
The officers apparently called for backup. Three officers in all claim to be injured. They were reportedly treated at a local hospital and later released. It's not clear how long the alleged battle went on, but one news report referred to it as "lengthy."
As a result of the incident, according to the Green Bay Press Gazette, both the man and the woman were arrested on several drug charges. The man will also face charges of resisting arrest and battery to police.
As this situation demonstrates, whether people are innocent of a crime or aren't, fighting with officers and resisting arrest just makes a situation worse and can lead to more charges being filed.
